| January 13, 2010 | | Trace the development path of complex interactions with the ValueNetworks.com application | ValueNetworks.com reveals the hidden story of human interactions that support any given business activity. Two basic value network patterns are visualized in the application: the Standard Role Based Value Network and the Collaborative Value Network of individuals involved in an activity. The Role based value network shows the actual value contributing roles that people play to get the work done. A role can be filled by one person or hundreds, depending on the scale of the activity. The Collaborative Value Network shows the same work as it actually flows from individual to individual - the people that populate the roles. Note that this is not a typical social network or communication network. The value network pattern reveals the pattern of actual deliverables and business transactions to show the way value is really created overall and within the business activity. Each line depicts a specific and unique business transaction. The level of detail has been simplified in these views. A more detailed example of a value network is here.

Tracing the Evolution of the Network
The ValueNetworks.com application sequencing feature allows workflow analysts to trace the development path of even the most complex interactions. In the chart below the development path of a problematic workflow case is shown. The “hidden story” of human interactions is made visible as a network pattern. The Prediction Report in the Enterprise Edition would have allowed this particular sample problem to be identified in less than half the time than it was in the workflow application. In the example below a single case handling involved 54 different human interactions. Each link shows that the case was moved from one person to another. Note how long the case was stuck in an unproductive network pattern before the workflow system finally flagged a problem. The powerful and unique analytic engine of the ValueNetworks.com application can improve predictability of workflow problems by up to 90%.

The intent of this second visualization is explanatory only and is normally only part of an in-depth analysis process for trouble-shooting severe performance issues. Generation of these step-by-step visuals requires manual manipulation of the Visio reports from the ValueNetwork.com application.
